For the fourth year in a row, the Northern Ohio Chevelle Club has won the honor of being picked '#1 Club Display' at the 2009 Cleveland AutoRama!!!
Once again, our club has pulled together and earned the top spot at the Cleveland AutoRama. Considerable efforts were put forth by many members to help us pull off another excellent display........
The theme for this year was a classic 'OK' car lot. Mark Meldrum came up with the the overall design of the display and many others contributed materials and/or time to make it happen. Great Lakes Fencing (Mike Ely) donated all of the fencing, Don Sitts AutoSales donated the flags and 'OK' license plates, Bryan Sarver donated the carpeting, Jim Umsted loaned us the sound system, and Rick Meldrum donated the beautiful 'OK' sign that sits atop our display. Patty Umsted provided the 'receptionists voice recordings' that were played throughout the day across the PA system to simulate a dealership: 'Parts...Line 1', 'New Car Sales...Line 2'...etc. Her 'special' recordings were the highlight of the display and received many laughs from the spectators: 'Joe Desmont, Joe Desmont, Please call the Free Clinic, your test results are in', 'Larry Robison, the Tennessee State Police would like to talk to you on Line 2', 'Mark Meldrum, Your Wife is on line 1....Your GIRLFRIEND is on line 2', and 'There is a new shipment of Sweet Tea behind the shop'. Great job Patty! One thing that we didn't anticipate was that the spectators would actually think that our cars were for sale! We had so many people ask on Saturday that we displayed 'Sold' signs on all of the cars. Unfortunately, that caused many more people to ask 'How much did you sell it for'...I guess you just can't win Mark, Larry, Joe, Ed, and Jerry all dressed up like 70's salesmen complete with polyester plaid jackets, checkered pants, and fake cigars. They swear they bought or rented the clothes (but I bet they dug them out of a long lost box in their basements). We had some stiff competition from the Mustang Club (who mysteriously had the same display idea and setup as we did) but, as always, Ford's did nothing but look at our tail ends as we ran up to accept our first place award!!! Ed Nichols, Chris Olsen, Rose Marchese, Bruce and Melanie Bender, Andre Stephens, Larry Robison, Don Sitts, and Kenny Smith all had vehicles in the display. All but one placed in their individual categories but all had a great time. Mark and Julie already have next year all planned out but they are keeping it a secret from those Ford guys. A great big thanks goes out to all of the members (and non-members) who helped out and showed their support through the planning stages and the show. With a great bunch of guys and gals like this, how can we not win? |
